Canção de uma Terra Seca is a vibrant and rhythmically exciting piano duet for four hands, inspired by two powerful dance traditions from Northeast Brazil: Maracatu and Baião. Highly energetic, percussive, and full of colour, the piece gives both pianists the opportunity to explore rich polyrhythmic textures while still shaping lyrical and expressive musical lines.

The music combines driving rhythmic layers, syncopation, and a strong sense of groove with moments of melodic beauty and contrast. Performers have described the piece as extremely fun to play, and its four-hand setting makes it especially engaging for developing ensemble coordination, rhythmic independence, shared pulse, and musical communication between pianists.

With its unique Brazilian flavour and bold rhythmic character, this duet makes a rich and colourful addition to recitals, festivals, competitions, and piano ensemble programs. The piece was also later orchestrated for the Calgary Wind Symphony as a commission from conductor Dr. Jeremy Brown.
