TBA, Calgary, AB

Brazil–Canada Connection: A Brazilian Jazz Concert is hosted by the Nebula Society in Calgary and celebrates the richness of Canada’s multicultural spirit through the vibrant sounds of Brazilian music.

Featuring John and Denis, the concert takes audiences on a unique musical journey where Brazil meets Canada, blending folkloric, classical, and jazz influences through styles such as choro, baião, bossa nova, xote, samba, frevo, and original compositions.

Audiences will experience nine exciting Brazilian musical styles while learning about their origins, including the ways Brazilian folk traditions have interacted with North American jazz. John and Denis also share stories from their friendship, including the humorous fact that John was already playing Brazilian music before Denis was born, even though he has since learned much about the tradition from Denis.

The program also includes original works, including a piece co-written by Denis and John that represents the spirit of the Brazil–Canada Connection.

This is a fun, engaging, and accessible concert for families and audiences of all ages and cultural backgrounds. Whether listeners are longtime fans of Brazilian music or hearing Latin jazz for the first time, they can expect an unforgettable musical experience from this dynamic duo.
